The result of searching the word "food waste" on COCA corpus
I entered the word "food waste" on COCA corpus https://corpus.byu.edu/coca/ and found out how frequent the word appears or what kind of resources treat this word.
According to this site, the frequency of the word ''food waste" accounts for 225 in total. The resource that uses this word the most is academic. Magazine is the second that the word appears mostly. In addition, among the academic, the ones about science and technology uses by far the most word "food waste". On the contrary, there were no hit on the fiction that treats the word. I think that the reason why the word appears frequently in the academic is that the issues of food waste need solving from an academic perspective. I guess the problem is too complicated than I imagined to solve by a simple method, so it should be analyzed academically. Also, as I mentioned, the word "food waste" mostly appears on the academic about science and technology, and this fact indicates that the problems of food waste are strongly connected with environmental problems, such as global warming or pollution. In addition, cooking has become a popular hobby in these days, so this tendency contributes to the increase of the word "food waste" appearing on magazine.
I also searched which period of years treated the word "food waste", and I found that the word appears most frequently from 1995 to 1999. From 2015 to 2017 follows this result. I guess that there were some incidents that lead "food waste" to a serious phase from 1995 to 1999. And it seems to me that the problem has been becoming worse again in resent years according to this data. And I think that these two periods are the ones that environmental problems had been particularly regarded as serious problems.
I also searched collocates with "food waste", and the word collocates with "composting" accounts for 11 and 12 collocates with "recycling". I make sure that "food waste" is strongly related to environmental problems on the basis of this data.
To sum up, the issues of food waste have a strong connection with environmental problems, and the anxiety of environmental problems have been occurred in recent years. I hope more and more people regard the food waste as a bad thing and take actions to reduce the amount of food waste.
